The Graduate Visa allows international students who have successfully completed a degree at a UK higher education provider to remain in the UK to work or look for work at any skill level for a period of 2 years (or 3 years for doctoral graduates). This visa is designed to provide graduates with the opportunity to gain work experience in the UK after their studies.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Graduate Visa, you must:

  • Hold a valid Student or Tier 4 (General) visa at the time of application.
  • Have successfully completed a degree at a UK higher education provider with a track record of compliance.
  • Be in the UK when you apply.
  • Apply before your current Student or Tier 4 visa expires.

Note: You do not need to wait until you have received your final degree certificate to apply, but your education provider must have informed the Home Office that you have successfully completed your course.

Application Process

  1. Prepare Required Documents: Ensure you have all necessary documents ready for submission.
  2. Apply Online: Complete the application form on the official UK government website.
  3. Prove Your Identity: Depending on your nationality and the type of passport you hold, you may need to:
    • Use the 'UK Immigration: ID Check' app to scan your identity document and create or sign into your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
    • Have your biometric information (fingerprints and photograph) taken at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) service point.
  4. Await Decision: The Home Office aims to make a decision within 8 weeks of receiving your application.

Required Documents

When applying for the Graduate Visa, you will need to provide:

  • valid passport or other travel document that shows your identity and nationality.
  • Your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number from when you applied for your Student or Tier 4 visa.
  • Evidence that your education provider has informed the Home Office that you have successfully completed your course.
